Samsung India gives free Gear VR to compensate for Galaxy Note 7 shipment delay

Samsung's recently launched Galaxy Note 7 phablet has been the subject of news for the past few days, with users around the globe reporting about their devices exploding due to faulty batteries. Multiple complaints and media reports led to the company recalling several million units of the smartphone globally for further quality control testing. The decision also led to the postponing of the September 2 India launch of the Note 7 until further notice. Now, Samsung India is offering a Gear VR headset free of cost to users who pre-ordered the Note 7, as a token of appreciation for their patience.
The company will be shipping the new Gear VR 'absolutely free of cost' to those who have pre-booked the Galaxy Note 7. In addition, the VR will include a free Oculus content voucher worth Rs 3,300.

To recall, customers who pre-booked the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 were initially offered the new Gear VR headset with a discount as their pre-booking incentive. Priced at Rs. 7,290, pre-booking customers were offered a discounted price of Rs. 1,990.

While this offer might cheer up Samsung fans in India, it still remains a question as to when Samsung will start shipping the Galaxy Note 7 in the country. The company says that it will announce the date shortly. But those who wish to get refunds can get in touch with their online retailer for further details.

"Samsung is committed to producing the highest quality products and we take every incident reported by our valued customers very seriously. In response to recent cases reported globally of the new Galaxy Note 7, we conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue. As our customers' safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have delayed the sales of Galaxy Note 7 in India. We acknowledge the inconvenience caused to you but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers. Appreciate your understanding," reads the company's dedicated web page for the device.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was launched in India at Rs. 59,990, and was due to become available from September 2. The variant due to launch in India was a dual-SIM one.
