Motorola Moto G5 and G5 Plus expected to go on sale immediately after MWC launch

At the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017, Lenovo-owned Motorola is expected to announce its Moto G5 smartphone. Ahead of the official launch, a lot of details about the smartphone have already emerged online. Even as we are about three weeks away from the MWC, more details about the Moto G have surfaced. A UK-based retailer has listed the Moto G on its website, claiming the phone will be up for grabs shortly after the MWC unveiling.

The retailer, which goes by the name Clove, has listed the base variant of Moto G with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage in Gold and Grey color options, saying the first stock is due mid-March. Given that the MWC will conclude in the first week of March, it won’t be long before the smartphone shows up for retail, PhoneArena notes.

Last month, specifications and features of the smartphone were spotted online. Prior to that renders of the Moto G5 had also leaked. The latest information only adds to the existing pool of details already available but gives a more concrete timeframe for the consumer launch. Based on rumors so far, the company is most likely to introduce a plus variant, dubbed Moto G5 Plus, at the MWC.

Although the latest reports do not reveal any pricing details about the Moto G5 and G5 Plus, but based on earlier rumors, it is expected that the smaller version will be priced around $230 (approximately Rs 15,600), while the Plus variant could be priced around $300 (approximately Rs 20,400).

Moto G5 specifications and features

The Moto G5 is expected to feature a 5-inch full HD (1080p) display and come powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset paired with 2GB of RAM. It is to be noted that the latest retailing information on Clove contradicts earlier rumors which suggest that there will be 32GB onboard storage which will be further expandable via microSD card. According to the retailer, the phone has 16GB of internal storage.

Possibly, the Moto G5 will be available in two variants, one with 2GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage and another with 3GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage.

On the photography front, the Moto G5 is expected to come with a 13-megapixel rear camera along with a 5-megapixel selfie camera. It is likely to be fueled by a 2,800mAh battery. The LTE-enabled smartphone is expected to the latest Android Nougat out-of-the-box.

The Plus variant is expected to boast a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display and come powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage. It is speculated to feature a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash along with a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Keeping it ticking could be a 3,080mAh battery.
