Smartron srt.phone inspired by Sachin Tendulkar, launched in India, priced at Rs 12,999: Specifications and features

Smartron, domestic manufacturer with the t.phone and t.book to its name, today launched its srt.phone in India. The smartphone had been long teased by the company and Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar who is one of the strategic investors in the company. Priced at Rs 12,999 (32GB internal storage) and Rs 13,999 (64GB internal storage), the smartphone will be available exclusively on Flipkart. There are a number of launch day offers on the smartphone including free backcovers, one year of t.care warranty and an additional Rs 1,500 off on exchange of an older phone.

Smartron has not been amongst list of brands which consumers could recall. To recall, the t.phone was the company’s first smartphone launched last year and priced in the mid-range category. While the t.phone scored in the looks department, it wasn’t up to the mark in terms of performance. With the srt.phone, Smartron is now leveraging the fan base its top investor Sachin Tendulkar enjoys in the country to come up with one-of-its-kind signature products centered around the cricketing legend.

Smartron srt.phone features and specifications

In line with the unusual naming culture, the new handset by Smartron also bears a ‘.phone’ branding along with Sachin Tendulkar’s initials. Unlike other manufacturers who are focused on building metal phones, Smartron has opted for the age-old plastic structure. The srt.phone features a rear fingerprint sensor that sits beneath the rather odd-looking ‘Smartron’ logo. In addition to the company name, ‘srt.phone Designed and engineered in India’ is also inscribed on the rear panel, giving it a rather cluttered appearance.

Talking further about the design, the volume controllers are on the right while the front panel houses capacitive Android buttons. If one looks at the overall design language, there are a host of competing smartphones such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 which offer a metal design that gives a more premium appearance to the otherwise affordable device.

The srt.phone boasts a 5.5-inch full HD display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There is also a variant with 32GB of default storage.

Now, one of the good features about the smartphone is that it runs the newer Android 7.1.1 Nougat with near stock UI out-of-the-box with at least two major updates promised. This makes the srt.phone one of the affordable smartphones running the newer Android OS.

For photography, the smartphone features a 13-megapixel rear camera along with a 5-megapixel front camera. Given the selfie rage in India, manufacturers are aiming to bring selfie-centric smartphones for the budget-conscious consumers. At the given price, there are other smartphones equipped with a better front camera.

Fuelling the srt.phone is a 3,000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 through a Type-C port. It is worth mentioning that the smartphone  retains the regular 3.5mm headphone jack which is placed on the top.
